Step 1: Register through the Global Passport Seva Online Portal

To begin the application process, visit the Global Passport Seva Online Portal at www.embassy.passportindia.gov.in. Choose your country of residence and click on the “Register” link on the home page. If your country of residence is not visible in the portal, you will need to follow the Online Form Submission India process for a background check in India.

Step 2: Login to the Global Passport Seva Online Portal

Once you have registered, login to the Global Passport Seva Online Portal using the Login ID created in Step 1.

Step 3: Apply for Background Verification for GEP

Click on the “Apply for Background Verification for GEP” link. This is an essential step in the passport application process, as it ensures that all necessary background checks are conducted.

Step 4: Fill in the Application Form

Fill in all the required details in the application form and submit it. Make sure to provide accurate information to avoid any delays or complications in the process.

Step 5: Print Application Form

After submitting the application form, click on the “Print Application Form” link. This will generate a printable version of the application form, which includes the Application Reference Number (ARN) and other important details. Keep this form safe, as you will need it for further steps.

Step 6: Visit the Indian Embassy/Consulate

To complete the background check application submission process for the Global Entry Program (GEP), you will need to visit the Indian Embassy/Consulate office or the Outsourced Service Provider (OSP) as per the application submission process of the Embassy/Consulate. Carry the original documents required for verification along with the applicable fee of USD 25.

Online Form Submission (Applicant presently living in India)

If you are currently residing in India, follow the steps below to apply for a passport through the Passport Seva Online Portal.

Step 1: Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal

Visit the Passport Seva Online Portal and click on the “Register Now” link on the home page. This will initiate the registration process.

Step 2: Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal

Once you have registered, login to the Passport Seva Online Portal using the Login ID created in Step 1.

Step 3: Apply for Background Verification for GEP

Click on the “Apply for Background Verification for GEP” link to start the process of background verification.

Step 4: Fill in the Application Form

Fill in all the required details in the form accurately and submit it.

Step 5: Pay and Schedule Appointment

To book an appointment, click on the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen. Online payment is mandatory for booking appointments and can be made using credit/debit cards, internet banking, or UPI payment.

Step 6: Print Application Receipt

After scheduling an appointment, click on the “Print Application Receipt” link to generate a printable receipt. This receipt will contain the Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number. Note that carrying a printout of the application receipt is no longer required, as an SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment.

Step 7: Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO)

On the day of your appointment, visit the designated Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO) along with all the original documents required for verification.

Please take note of the following important information:

  • Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit the Passport Seva Kendra without an appointment. The service will be provided at the discretion of the Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer.
  • For minor applicants below 4 years of age, carry a recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with a white background.
  • If you fail to visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission, you will need to resubmit the application form.
  • Information regarding the status of verification carried out by Indian authorities and communicated to US CBP authorities will not be disclosed to the applicants or the general public as per the RTI Act, 2005.
